Frieda C. Charters, 74 of Effingham, passed away at 5:28 p.m., Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 23, 2013 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorials may be made to the Meals on Wheels program.

Frieda was born January 11, 1939 in Jasper County, the daughter of Lorne and Mary (Klingler) Fehrenbacher. She married James T. "Jim" Charters, Sr. on June 9, 1962 and he survives. Frieda was a homemaker and a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham.

Frieda is survived by her husband, Jim of Effingham; son, Jim, Jr. (Melissa) of Effingham; two daughters, Kathy (Larry) Apke of Teutopolis and Cindy (Tim) Mahnesmith of Troy; two brothers, Dale Fehrenbacher of Rocky Mount, MO and Max (Bonnie) Fehrenbacher of Blaine, MN; two sisters, Rita Massmann of Rotterdam, NY and Kathy Fehrenbacher of Effingham; six grandchildren, Stephen and Drew Apke of Teutopolis, John Charters of Greenup, Clint Charters of Effingham and AJ and Lane Mahnesmith of Troy.

Frieda was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Larry; sister, Madeline Kaufman and great-grandson, Wade.
