Florence Lucille Vail, 88 of Effingham, passed away Monday morning, March 5, 2018 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Effingham with burial in Oakridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham and for one hour prior to funeral service, Sunday afternoon at the church. Florence was born July 25, 1929 in Clay County, the daughter of Charles and Stella (Colclasure) Smith. On March 12, 1948, she married Ralph L. Vail of Altamont. Florence spent many years actively serving in various ministries within her church. She also served on the Effingham County Election Board. Florence's family was important to her, and she enjoyed the time they were able to share together. She enjoyed playing Bingo, card games, Cardinal ballgames, and spending time with a host of friends.

Florence is survived by her loving husband of almost 70 years, Ralph of Effingham; son, Rick L. (Beverly) of Salem and Rex (Karla) of Symsonia, KY; daughter, Candi (Robert) Foster of Albuquerque, NM; 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Florence was preceded in death by her three brothers, Elbert, Delmar and Virgil; two sisters, Alma Meares and Zila Smith.
