Evelyn May (Bartimus) Smith, 77 of Effingham, IL, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2026 at Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care.

Evelyn was born May 21, 1949, in Prairie Township, Shelby County, IL, the daughter of Otis Henry and Ethel Lorena (Tarrant) Bartimus.

In addition to her love for her family, Evelyn was very passionate about Genealogy and devoted much of her life to visiting courthouses and cemeteries, documenting the lives of her ancestors. Evelyn also loved plants, flower gardening, watching movies and cats.

She is survived by her sons, Ronnie (Beth) Smith and Terry Smith of Brownstown, IL, grandson Billy (Avril) Taylor, Altamont, IL, siblings Martha Johnson, Decatur, IL, Wanda Wakefield, Terre Haute, IN, Henry (Karen) Bartimus, Dewitt, IL, Ava Tarbox, Clinton, IL, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Brian Frank Taylor, Jr, her parents and sister Diane Robertson.

In accordance with Evelyn’s wishes, no services will be held.
