Evelyn Pearl Hartke, 94, formerly of Effingham, passed away Monday, December 7, 2015 at her home in Jacksonville.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 10, 2015 at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville, where the family will meet friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. A visitation will also be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 11, 2015 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham, followed by an 11:00 a.m. funeral service. Burial will be held at St. Anthony Cemetery in Effingham. Memorials are suggested to Jacksonville Senior Center.

Evelyn was born September 30, 1921 in Union Township, Effingham County, the daughter of Diamond Pearl Nelson. She married Clarence Joseph Hartke on April 24, 1947 and he preceded her in death on January 22, 1973.

Mrs. Hartke worked as a baker at MacMurray College in Jacksonville for over 20 years, and continued baking for fundraisers, community events, family and friends. She was an active member of the Jacksonville Senior Center and had served as a board member. She was also a member of Central Christian Church. Evelyn was a master quilter and embroiderer, and enjoyed traveling. She loved to play Pinochle and enjoyed the companionship of her card group.

She is survived by three sons, Ed (Mary) Hartke of Riverton, Darrell
(Nancy Farmer) Hartke of St. Louis and Tom (Debra) Hartke of Arvada,
CO; two grandchildren, Brett and Steven Hartke; two step-grandchildren, Robin Chadioun and Roberta Fones; one great-grandson, Aden Hartke; several great–great step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Fyrne Reed; brother, Allen Ross Nelson and step-grandson, James Lee.
