Obituary

Elizabeth E. "Betty" Runde, 92 of Teutopolis, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017 at HSHS St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 14, 2017 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the church, with a 6:00 p.m. C.C.W. ladies rosary and a 6:30 p.m. parish prayer service. Betty was born November 9, 1924 in Bishop Creek, the daughter of Frank and Catherine (Schneiderjan) Kortte. She married Dr. Joseph J. Runde on June 15, 1949 and he proceeded her in death in 1994. Elizabeth was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis, where she was a mass supervisor, taught religion classes and was involved with the St. Francis Council of Catholic Women. She served as the Teutopolis Village Treasurer and in 2001, was named Volunteer of the Year by St. Francis Home Extension. Elizabeth enjoyed being involved with DeColores, volunteering her time at Second Hand Rose and being a member of 3rd Order of Secular Franciscans for 55 years.

Elizabeth was the glue of her family. They include her five sons, Michael (Darlene) of Shelbyville, Stephen of St. Louis, MO, Dr. Gerald (Karen), Joseph (Jeanette) and Jeffrey (Tonya), all of Teutopolis; three daughters, Judy (Bill) Martin, Susan (Terry) Shannon and Kathy Lundquist, all of Teutopolis; sister, Kathryn Wesselman of Teutopolis; brothers-in-law, Paul Runde and Gene Runde, both of Teutopolis; sisters-in-law, Mary Runde and Ellen Runde, both of Teutopolis; twenty four grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Elizabeth's family were her pride and joy.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Doug Lundquist and her siblings, Rose Dust, John Kortte, Helen Haarmann, Veronica Hartl, Henry Kortte, Anna Wesselman, Frank Kortte, Agnes Kortte and Joseph Kortte.
