Obituary

Eleanor Clara (Deters) Fearday, 96, of Sigel, died at 1:40 p.m., Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Heartland Christian Village in Neoga surrounded by her family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 23, 2012 at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Sigel, with Rev. Robert DeGrand and Sister Pat Thies officiating. Burial will be held in St. Michael Cemetery, Sigel. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday evening at the church with a 6:30 p.m. parish wake service. Prior to the visitation, a rosary service led by C. D. of A. and St. Michael Council of Catholic Women will be held at 2:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Michael School in Sigel. Eleanor was born November 3, 1915 in Cumberland County, the daughter of Joseph and Cecelia (Will) Deters. She married Wilbur John Fearday on August 3, 1940 at St. Michael the Archangel Church. He preceded her in death on January 23, 2011.

She was a 45 year member of Catholic Daughter of the Americas Court #720 and St. Michael's Council of Catholic Women. Eleanor loved to attend daily mass. Some of her favorite hobbies were making rosaries for the missions, crocheting for her grandchildren, playing Rummikub and traveling. She was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Eleanor is survived by her children, Marilyn (Art, deceased) More of Sigel, Charlene (Gerald, deceased) Hartke of Effingham, Barb (Kenneth, deceased) Sudkamp of Garland, Texas, Kay (Mark) Schumacher of Sand Springs, OK, Mike (Martha) of Sigel, Diane (Mike) Mette of Sigel, Tom (Joyce) of Teutopolis, Fred of Tampa, FL, Tony (Cheryl) of Sigel, Gene (Rhonda) of Effingham, Phil of Sigel; foster son, Willie Rivera of Chicago; sisters-in-law, Evelyn (Richard) Schumacher of Clinton, MD and Carolyn (James) Knabe of Lake Worth, FL; 36 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren and 6 great-step grandchildren.

Mrs. Fearday was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Walter, Louis and Clarence Deters, three sisters, Emma (Earl) Flood, Mildred (Tony) Licata and Stella in infancy; daughter-in-law, Rita Fearday; one grandson and one great granddaughter.
