Obituary

Douglas E. Niebrugge, 51, of Effingham died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Effingham, with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. A wake service for the immediate family will be held at 3:30 p.m. and public visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Doug Niebrugge Memorial Fund at Washington Savings and Loan, Effingham. Bauer Funeral Home, Effingham, is assisting the family with arrangements. Doug was born Oct. 11, 1960, in Effingham, the son of Wilbert and Carol (Will) Niebrugge. He was the owner of Landscape Solutions, a local landscaping firm, and was a developer of Lake Edward Estates.

As an active member of the community, Doug was a former board member of the Greater Effingham Chamber of Commerce, president of the Egyptian Board of Realtors and served on the Effingham Elks Elders Board.

Doug enjoyed happiness in his family, friends and giving his time to the less fortunate. He enjoyed serving many community organizations, including Big Brothers, Big Sisters, Women of the Outdoors and various other organizations. He was an avid outdoors man who loved hunting and grilling at his deer cabin.

Survivors include his daughters, Kristen Williamson of Urbana and Katherine (Jacob) Clark of Kailua, Hawaii; fiancee, Sharon Boerngen of Effingham and her children, Shawn Bannick, Shane Bannick and Shannon Heuerman; parents, Wilbert and Carol Niebrugge of Watson; brothers, Gary (Debbie) Niebrugge of Watson, Brian Niebrugge of Effingham, Jeffrey (Michelle) Niebrugge of Teutopolis, Kevin (Misty) Niebrugge of Watson, Mark (Amy) Niebrugge of Effingham and Daniel (Toni) Niebrugge of Watson; special grandson, Evan Williamson of Urbana; grandmother, Dolores Will of Teutopolis; 16 nieces and nephews; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ed and Rose (Esker) Niebrugge and Vincent Will.
