Dorothy B. Pruemer, 87, of Effingham, passed away at 7:10 p.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 3, 2011 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with a 4:30 p.m. C.C.W. rosary and a 7:00 p.m. parish wake service. Memorials may be made to the St. Anthony church or schools.
Dorothy was born April 11, 1924 in Montrose, the daughter of Martin and Delphine (Koebele) Meinhart. She married Bernard A. "Ben" Pruemer on October 4, 1947 and preceded her in death in 1988.
She was a member of the St. Anthony parish where she served in many ways. She was also involved in the St. Anthony Council of Catholic Women. Dorothy was known for her chocolate chip cookies and homemade apple pies. She loved to entertain. Dorothy and her late husband, Ben, enjoyed dancing for years. She was delighted to be honored as mother of the year several years ago. Her recent illness was difficult, but everyone who visited or cared for her will remember her joyful spirit.
She is survived by three sons, Jerry (Marilyn) of Effingham, Tom (Diana) of Grantsburg, Eric (Carolyn) of Cape Girardeau, MO; two daughters, Jeanette (Clarence) Unkraut of Effingham, Pat (Mark) Hartmann of Arlington Heights; 16 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Giles; one infant granddaughter and one great grandchild.
