Donald D. Hovey's Obituary
Donald D. Hovey Jr. 99 of Effingham, formerly of California died at 8:45 a.m. on July 18, 2011.
Private services will be held at a later date on Lake Tecon, MI. Bauer Funeral Home, Effingham, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Mr. Hovey was born on Feb. 9, 1912, in Great Falls, MT., the son of Donald and Georgia (King) Hovey. The family later moved to Michigan where he attended and graduated from Michigan State. He was also a member of MSU's track team.
He married Irene Barrand on May 26, 1934 and she preceded him in death on Feb. 15, 2005. They were married for nearly 73 years.
He retired after 44 years with the Ford Motor Co. as the West Coast Regional Manager. He loved gardening and traveling the world. He was a member of the Robert Schuller's Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, CA.
Survivors include his son David (wife Mary) Hovey of Reno, NV.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in Death by his parents; wife Irene; one Daughter, Joan Frame; one son, Donald Hovey III; and two brothers: Rex Hovey and Ted Hovey
