Dennis Jerome "Shorty" Probst, 52, passed away at 1:38 p.m., Friday, June 6, 2014 at his home in rural Effingham.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Bishop Creek, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday evening at the church with a 6:00 p.m. parish wake service and a 7:00 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice. Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham is assisting the family with arrangements.

Dennis was born February 22, 1962 in Effingham County, the son of Jerome and Irene (Deters) Probst. He married Nancy L. Miller at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis on August 14, 1982. Dennis was a lifetime member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Bishop Creek, Teutopolis Knights of Columbus Council #2874 and the Effingham County Farm Bureau. He was a lifetime farmer and enjoyed working on the land; planting crops and tending to the animals. Dennis also enjoyed spending quality time with his family.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Jesse (Theresa) of Strasburg, Jodi (Hank) Doedtman of Effingham, Travis Probst at home, Kelsey Probst of Teutopolis, Rachel Probst at home, Trent Probst at home; grandson, Zachary and two granddaughters, Melanie and Kaylee; his parents, Jerome and Irene Probst of Effingham; four sisters, Cindy (Dan) Bloemer of Effingham, Shirley (Jay) Hoffman of Effingham, Deb (Linus) Ruholl of Dieterich and Lisa (Steve) Karolewicz of Effingham; brother, Don Probst of Effingham.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Tom Miller.
