Connie was born on May 25, 1926, in Teutopolis to William and Josepha (Hutmacher) Weber. She married Bernard "Barney" Wessel on June 23, 1951, and he preceded her in death on March 26, 2003. Together they owned and operated Wessel's Grocery in Teutopolis, Illinois, where Connie remained a working, familiar face to customers until the age 90. Before marrying Barney, Connie enjoyed working at Weber Brother's Hardware in Teutopolis and attended LeClare College to study art. An active member of the St. Francis of Assisi Church, C.C.W, and the Girl Scouts, she enjoyed volunteering over many years.
Connie was a spunky lady in all her years and loved ping pong, laughter, a tall Manhattan or a glass or Chablis, and enjoying time with her family. She had standing lunch dates with her friends, loved to laugh at great stories, hear about her grand and great-grandchildren, and see the smiles of everyone's faces that came about when she entered a room.
Connie is survived by her children William "Bill" (Sally) Wessel of Altamonte Springs, Florida, Carol (Gary) Gadbury of Manhattan, Kansas, John (Janice) Wessel of Teutopolis, Illinois, and Lynn (Michael) Long of Crestwood, Kentucky; Grandchildren Katherine Wessel of Chicago, Illinois, Jeffrey (Ashley) Wessel of Kirkwood, Missouri, Sarah (Dwight) Baxton of Belleville, Illinois, Anne Wessel of Chicago, Illinois, Elizabeth Wessel of Teutopolis, Illinois, Lauren Wessel of Teutopolis, Illinois, Jackson Long of Crestwood, Kentucky, and Devin Long of Crestwood, Kentucky; and great grandchildren Louis and Elijah Baxton and Mason Wessel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Barney; daughter-in-law, Sally; Parents, William and Josepha Weber; and siblings Hyacynth Schmaltz, Viola Tolch, William Weber Jr., Alma Wilson, Ruth Skillman, and Carmen Jacobs.
