Connie Jo Lewis, 63, of Springfield, died at 11:35 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2012 at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 24, 2012 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Effingham with burial in Springhill Cemetery, Wright's Corner, rural Beecher City. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham and for one hour prior to funeral service, Friday morning at St. John's Lutheran Church, Effingham. Visitation will also be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Trinity Lutheran Church, 220 South 2nd Street, Springfield, Illinois. Memorials may be made to. www.bauerfh.com
Connie was born April 26, 1948 in Effingham, the daughter of Elvin and Helen (Wood) Childress. She married Billy Gene Lewis on September 17, 1967 and he preceded her in death in 2010. Connie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Springfield. She had worked for the State of Illinois as an I.D.O.T secretary and also as the secretary at the governor's mansion.
She is survived by her daughter, Dana A. Lewis of Springfield; two brothers, Terry (Judy) Childress and Dennis (Nora) Childress of Denham Springs, LA; two brothers-in-law, Glenn "Lip" Lewis of Mason and Jack (Sharon) Lewis of Effingham; one sister-in-law, Priscilla (Lester) Sipe of Effingham; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billy; brother, Danny; sister-in-law, Tammy and one niece Lisa Childress.
