Obituary

Cletus Aloysius Brummer, 94 of rural Dieterich, passed away at 2:42 a.m., Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his wife and children.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 16, 2012 at St. Aloysius Church, Bishop Creek with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Friday evening at the church with a 6:00 p.m. parish wake service. At his and the family's request, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of donor's choice or to the missions.

Cletus was born on October 3, 1917 in Dieterich, the son of Herman T. and Gertrude (Probst) Brummer. He married Agnes Grunloh on October 5, 1940 in Green Creek and she survives.

Cletus was past trustee of St. Aloysius Church as well as mower of the church grounds for many years. He was twice-elected school board member, including president of Teutopolis Community School District #50, where he also served as Future Farmers of America advisor. Cletus was a member of the Effingham Knights of Columbus.

Cletus, a retired farmer, was a gardener, a pinochle player and a fisherman, but mostly enjoyed visiting with his family. He had great respect for the priesthood and religious.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes; children, Richard (Maureen McLean), Eugene (Ruth Waldhoff), Mary Thoele (Mike), Alice Drees (Gene), Martha Fearday (Mike), Herman (Sharon Bergfeld), Anthony (Judy Swingler), Margaret Bierman (Mark), Phyllis Jansen (Bill), Francis (Cathy Pruemer) and Lynne McWhorter (Greg); son-in-law, Tom Fearday (Joyce Worman); 60 grandchildren; 116 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Pauline Brummer, Beulah Brummer and Dolores Grunloh; many loving nieces and nephews also survive.

Cletus was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rita Fearday; grandson, Rick Brummer; great grandchild, Lily Miller; two brothers, Raymond and Leonard; seven sisters, Florence Pruemer, Emma Brummer, Dorothy Deters, Gertrude Goeckner, Helen Beckman, Anna Mae Jansen and infant sister, Marie.
