Clarence F. 'Barney' Hartke, 93 of Dieterich, passed away at 1:55 a.m., Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Lakeland Rehabilitation Center in Effingham.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday Dec. 4, 2013 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Bishop Creek with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday evening at the church with a 6:00 p.m. parish wake service and a Knights of Columbus rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Isidore Parish or Donor's choice.

Barney was born September 18, 1920 in Bishop Township, the last survivor of 13 children from the Joseph and Lena (Brummer) Hartke family. He was a member of St. Isidore Parish at Bishop Creek, the Men's Sodality and was a member of the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus Council #2874 and the 4th Degree. Barney was a lifetime farmer and a family man with a soft spot in his heart for his grandchildren. Barney enjoyed good company and playing cards, not to mention winning.

Barney is survived by his wife of 67 years, Theresa (Hoene) Hartke of Dieterich; five children, Barb (Joe) Helmink of Lillyville, Dennis (Mary Sue) Hartke of Dieterich, Lois Phariss of Chickasha, OK; Brian (Sue) Hartke of Dieterich and Mary Jo Hartke of South Carolina; daughter-in-law, Pat Hartke of Vandalia; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Barney was preceded in death by his parents; son: Melvin Hartke; brothers: Roman, Andrew, Erban, Joseph, Alphonse, James (Father Jim), and Leonard Hartke; sisters, Della Hoene, Florence Messner, Gertrude Pruemer, Eleanor Hartke and Helen Henkelman; son-in-laws, Gene Long and Lonnie Phariss.
