Obituary

Charles H. "Chuck" Schlanser, 63, of Effingham, passed away at 11:29 p.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 17, 2012 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with a 6:30 p.m. parish prayer service. His family has requested that memorials be made to Wetherell House. www.bauerfh.com.

Chuck was born in rural Effingham, the son of Joseph and Loretta M. (Doedtman) Schlanser. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. Chuck participated in the Special Olympics where he received a gold medal. He was also an avid Cardinals fan and enjoyed the Orchard Inn.

Chuck is survived by five brothers, Robert (Sylvia) of Houston, TX, Anthony (Tricia), Larry (special friend, Lynn Hille), Mike (Becky) and Richard (special friend, Sandy Weber), all of Beecher City; two sisters, Marie (Ben) Doedtman and Susan (Mike) Mumm, both of Effingham. Also among Chuck's family were his extended family, all the residents and staff of the Wetherell House who provided him with love and friendship for the past 20 years. Their care and concern enriched his life, contributing to his sense of independence and self worth.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Steve and wife, Elizabeth; sister-in-law, Patty Schlanser.
