Charles H. "Chuck" Kreke, 91, died at 12:45 p.m., Monday, March 12 at his home in rural Teutopolis.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2012 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday evening at the church with a 6:30 p.m. parish prayer service followed by; a combined Knights of Columbus/ Holy Name Society rosary. Chuck was born January 3, 1921 in Effingham, the son of William and Angela (Koester) Kreke. He married Gertrude C. (Hardiek) on February 7, 1942 and she preceded him in death in 1995. Chuck was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis, Holy Name Society and a lifetime member of the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus Council #2874. He was a lifelong farmer and milked cows for over 70 years. Chuck enjoyed teasing his grandkids, playing cards and cheering on the Chicago Cubs and the Fighting Illini. His jokes and kidding will be missed by all.
He is survived by his three sons, Dick (Lois), Mike (Linda) and Ted (Patty) all of Teutopolis; three daughters, Charlene (Richard) Bushur of Watson, Judy (Dave) Bloemer of Teutopolis and Janet (Wayne "Shorty") Probst of Bishop Creek; one brother, Steve (Irene) of Effingham; one sister, Pat Kreke of Effingham; 31 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren. Chuck's family would like to say a special thanks to his caregivers, Lucy Flach, Anna Miller, Mary Borries and Rita Vandeveer.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; wife, "Tudie"; grandson, Doug Bushur; four brothers, Lawrence, Bernard, Raymond, Albert and James; three sisters, Frances Walker, Mary Peters and Joan Adams.
