Carol J. Chaney, 81 of St. Elmo, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2024 surrounded by her loving family, at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Carol was born March 7, 1943 in O'Fallon, the daughter of Leonard and Bernetta (Bernhardt) Wiley; honorary father, Royal J. Fletcher. She worked at the Shoe Factory in Olney, the Glove Factory in Newton, Hardee in Effingham, and as an in-home care aide for Community Care. Carol also worked at her daughter's daycare for many years.

She is survived by her daughters, Carla (Pete) Goeckner of Teutopolis, Sherry (Larry) Everett of Alamont and Cindy (Allen) Breitbach of Muskego, WI; sons, Charles (Traci) Duckworth of St. Elmo, Damon (Teresa) Duckworth of Brownstown, and Todd Chaney of Altamont; sisters, Kate (Dave) Thomason of Montrose, Elaine Shonk of Byron, OH, Janet McMahon of Montrose; brother, Dennis Fletcher of Montrose; 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Chaney; and brothers, Vernon Wiley, Gene Fletcher, Donnie Fletcher, and Jim Fletcher.
