Bruce H. Hartke, 59 of Effingham, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, September 22, 2013 at his home. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday evening at the funeral home with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Lincolnland or the American Cancer Society.

Bruce was born September 24, 1953 in Flora, the son of Edward and Dolores (Niemerg) Hartke. He was employed at World Color Press in Effingham for 29 years and later worked for 5 years at the Effingham Walmart.

Bruce embraced each day of his life with a positive enthusiastic attitude. He was a loving son, beloved brother and an uncle adored by his nieces and nephews. His many friends cherished him and he thought of them as his extended family.

Bruce is survived by his brother, Steve (Dena) Hartke of Champaign; sister, Pat (Jeff) Kritzman of Buffalo Grove; nephews, Michael (Becca) and Jeremy (Julie); two nieces, Alyssa and Tiffany (Jordan); one great-nephew, Brycen.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents.
