Bertha K. Hardig, 87, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2020 at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorial donations may be given to Sacred Heart Church in Effingham.

Bertha was born July 27, 1933 in Effingham, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Buenker) Goeckner. She married Charles E. Hardig on February 14, 1981 and he preceded her in death in 1994. Bertha was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham and the Sacred Heart Council of Catholic Women. She worked for 35 years in the dietary department at St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham.

Bertha is survived by her nieces and nephews, Donna (Paul) Breer, John Goeckner (Sue), Terry (Barbara) Goeckner, Leon (Joni) Goeckner, Renee (Tom) Barthelme, Carol Jean Kuhlman (Jim), Linda (Kenny) Gouchenour, Janet Willenborg, Cindy (Stanley) Mathis, Jane (Danny) Plummer, Randy (Jane) Ruholl, Elaine (Vernon) Tegeler, Alice (John) Flynn, Pat (Tim) Kessler, Ronnie (Twila) Ruholl and Cheryl (Herb) Meeker; brother-in-law, Joe Willenborg.

Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Charles and John (Lucille) Goeckner; sisters, Cecelia Willenborg and Dorothy (Bernard) Ruholl; niece, Charlotte Ruholl.
