Arlene Mae Laue, 67, of Shumway, passed away early Saturday morning at Aspen Creek in Effingham after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Shumway with burial in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Shumway. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham and for one hour prior to funeral service at the church. Arlene was born October 5, 1944 in Effingham, the daughter of Madonna "Dottie" (Stoldt) and Walter Heiden of Sumway. She married Larry F. Laue of Shumway on August 14, 1966.
Arlene graduated from Beecher City High School in 1962. She attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale where she graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary education. She later received her master's degree from Eastern Illinois University. Arlene taught in the Shumway and Beecher City Elementary schools for 28 years. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher's Sorority. Arlene has guided many young minds with great dedication and love.
As a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Shumway, Arlene used her many God given talents to teach Sunday School, Bible School, direct the choir, as well as play the organ. She was also a very active member of the WELCA.
Arlene and Larry had twin daughters, Angela and Rebecca, on February 4, 1973. They were raised on the farm outside of Shumway. Arlene enjoyed being a mother and farm wife. She helped on the farm and loved taking family vacations. Later in life she and Larry were able to enjoy many interesting cruises. She loved attending the many sporting events of her three active grandsons.
She is survived by her husband, Larry of Shumway; children, Angela Laue Miley and Rebecca (Mark) Barnes, both of Shumway; grandsons, Austin Miley, Tanner and Layton Barnes, all of Shumway; sister, Gloria (Ray) Snyder of Mason City and six nieces and nephews.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Madonna "Dottie" Heiden.
