Obituary

Joan A. "Annie" Miller, 90 of Teutopolis, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2026 at her home in Teutopolis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. The Ladies Sodality will pray the rosary at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham . Visitation will follow from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a parish wake service held at the conclusion of visitation. Memorial donations may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.

Annie was born July 12, 1935 in Effingham, the daughter of George H. and Bernadine M. (Nacke) Kinkelaar. A young Annie worked at Ruby Boerinsmeyer Custard Stand after school and for many summers. She also worked in the basement at Jansen's Department Store and briefly at a nursing hospital in St. Louis.

As a St. Anthony cheerleader she "bled red" until she married her Teutopolis Wooden Shoes husband, Tom Miller in 1954. A man works from sun to sun, a dairy farmer's wife's work is never done; bread baking, canning, shucking, plucking, mending, gardening, and raising kids.

Any spare moments went to officer meetings of the St. Francis Council of Catholic Women and the Ladies Sodality; add to that 41 years as an Avon representative. She thanked God every day for her blessings.

Annie is survived by her children, Jane (Greg) Ruholl, Roch (Sandy), Karen Behrman, Vickie (Ronald) Bloemer, Rich (Dianne), Nancy Probst, Ed, Steve (Mel) and Frank (Laurie); daughter-in-law, Lisa Miller; 35 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren; brother, George Kinkelaar Jr. and Greg Kinkelaar; sister, Judy Goeckner; brother-in-law, Clyde Buzzard.

Annie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, John; son-in-law, Dennis Probst; brother, Kenny Kinkelaar; sisters, Jean Buzzard and Florence "Floss" Marten; sister-in-law, Barb Kinkelaar; and brothers-in-law, Clete Goeckner and Dick Marten.
