Andrew F. Probst, 98, of Effingham, passed away at 4:55 a.m., Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 18, 2012 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Bishop Creek with burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday evening at the church with a 6:30 p.m. parish wake service. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to St. Aloysius Building Fund or to the donor's choice. Andrew was born October 11, 1913 in rural Effingham County, IL. the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Goeckner) Probst. He married Adella M. Esker on April 10, 1939 and she preceded him in death on December 6, 2004. Andrew was a member of St. Isidore Parish and the Effingham County Farm Bureau. Andrew's love of farming lived through all the years. He loved gardening and shared his plentiful harvest with everyone. In his free time, he enjoyed going fishing. Andrew was a quiet man, loved by all that knew him.
Andrew is survived by two sons, Weldon (Sharon) and Kenneth (Karen), both of Effingham; four daughters, Evelyn (Kenneth) Koester of Effingham, Mildred (Gene) Nosbisch of Teutopolis, Pat (Gerald) Stock of Effingham and Carol (Max) Higgs of Effingham; sister-in-law, Anne Probst of Denver, CO; 27 grandchildren, 66 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.
Andrew was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Adella; five brothers, Edward, Herman, Ferd, Albert and Henry; five sisters, Louise, Caroline, Genieva, Theresa and Sr. Mauritia; great granddaughter, Emily Higgs; two great grandsons, Derek McWhorter and Brandon Stock.
