Al Wendt Jr., 95 of Effingham, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2021 at HSHS St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 30, 2021 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorial donations may be given to St. Anthony Schools or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Al was born August 23, 1926 in Effingham, the son of Cornelius A. Sr. and Johanna (Renschen) Wendt. He married Mildred D. Wolfert on June 9, 1951. Al was a long time member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham, Effingham Knights of Columbus Council #665 and IBEW Local #146. He never knew a stranger and always had stories to share.
Al is survived by his wife, Mildred of Effingham; children, Tom (Debbe) of Chesterfield, MO, Donna (Charles) Schwerman of Effingham, Ron Wendt of Effingham and Cathy Rexroad of Effingham; sister, Verena Allen of Effingham; eight grandchildren, Jamie Antisdel, Charlie Schwerman, Lindsey Storm, Jill Verdeyen, Jeff Wendt, Shannon Bennett, Mark Gibson and Cody Rexroad; sixteen great-grandchildren.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Arnie Rexroad; daughter-in-law, Carol Wendt; siblings, Bernie Wendt, Virgil Wendt, Audrey Walk, Mary Swingler and Connie Wendt.
